Asim Abbasi is a Pakistani filmmaker, entrepreneur, and writer, known for his critically acclaimed work in Pakistani cinema and television. He was born in Karachi, Pakistan, in 1980 and completed his early education there before moving to the United States to study.
Abbasi studied film at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), where he earned his Bachelor’s degree in Film and Television Production. He later went on to complete a Master’s degree in Creative Writing from the University of Edinburgh in Scotland.
After completing his studies, Abbasi returned to Pakistan and started his career as a writer and director in Pakistani television. He worked on several popular TV dramas, including “Choti Si Zindagi” and “Pyaray Afzal,” which earned him critical acclaim and a strong following among audiences.
In 2018, Abbasi made his feature film debut with “Cake,” a family drama that explores complex relationships and family dynamics. The film received widespread critical acclaim and was screened at several international film festivals, including the London Asian Film Festival and the South Asian International Film Festival.
In 2020, Abbasi directed and wrote the screenplay for “Churails,” a web television series that follows the lives of four women who start a detective agency to help other women in need. The show received widespread critical acclaim for its strong feminist message, nuanced storytelling, and excellent performances by its cast.
Alongside his work in filmmaking and writing, Abbasi is also an entrepreneur and technology expert. He has been actively involved in promoting entrepreneurship and innovation in Pakistan and is a member of the Board of Directors of several prominent organizations, including the Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the Pakistan Business Council.
