Rafiq M. Habib is a prominent Pakistani entrepreneur and business leader. He is the Chairman of the Habib Group of Companies, which is one of the largest conglomerates in Pakistan with interests in industries such as banking, insurance, real estate, and textiles.
Rafiq M. Habib was born on November 7, 1944, in Karachi, Pakistan. He completed his early education in Pakistan before going to the United States for further studies. He graduated from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania with a Bachelor’s degree in Economics in 1966.
After completing his studies, Rafiq M. Habib returned to Pakistan and joined the family business. He played a key role in the growth and diversification of the Habib Group of Companies, which now has a presence in over 10 countries and employs more than 15,000 people. Today, the company has numerous subsidiaries which have been united under the name of House of Habib, led by Rafiq M. Habib who has a net worth of Rs. 94 billion.
Apart from his business ventures, Rafiq M. Habib is also involved in various philanthropic activities. He is the founder and chairman of the Habib University Foundation, which established the Habib University in Karachi, Pakistan. The university is aimed at providing world-class education to the youth of Pakistan and helping to improve the country’s socio-economic conditions. The group is well known for its Banking and Finance division and also owns Toyota Indus along with Toyota Tsusho and Toyota Motors.
In recognition of his contributions to the business and social sectors in Pakistan, Rafiq M. Habib has received numerous awards and honors. He was awarded the Sitara-i-Imtiaz, one of the highest civil awards in Pakistan, in 2013.
