Muneeb Maayr is a Pakistani entrepreneur and the founder of Bykea, a ride-hailing and logistics company based in Karachi, Pakistan. He was born on August 20, 1978, in Lahore, Pakistan.
Maayr obtained his Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science from Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS) in 2000. He then went on to pursue a Master’s degree in Computer Science from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst in the United States.
After completing his Master’s degree, Maayr worked as a software engineer for several technology companies in the US, including Netscape, AOL, and Google. He returned to Pakistan in 2010 and joined Naspers, a global internet and entertainment group, where he served as the CEO of OLX Pakistan.
In 2016, Maayr founded Bykea, a platform that provides ride-hailing, delivery, and payments services in Pakistan. Bykea started as a motorcycle ride-hailing service but has since expanded to include other services, such as parcel delivery, food delivery, and mobile phone top-up.
Under Maayr’s leadership, Bykea has become one of the fastest-growing startups in Pakistan, with a presence in 14 cities and over 30,000 registered drivers. The company has raised over $25 million in funding from investors such as Prosus Ventures, Middle East Venture Partners, and Sarmayacar.
In addition to his work with Bykea, Maayr is also a member of the board of directors of the Pakistan Software Houses Association (PSHA) and serves as an advisor to several other technology startups in Pakistan.
Maayr is recognized as one of the leading entrepreneurs in Pakistan, having been named in the Forbes Asia 30 under 30 list in 2018 and the Forbes Middle East Top 50 Entrepreneurs list in 2019. He is also a recipient of the Sitara-i-Imtiaz, one of Pakistan’s highest civilian honors, for his contributions to the country’s technology industry.
