Arif Habib is a well-known Pakistani businessman, entrepreneur, and philanthropist. He was born on November 1, 1949, in Karachi, Pakistan. Habib graduated with a degree in civil engineering from NED University of Engineering and Technology, Karachi, and later completed his Master’s degree in Business Administration from the Institute of Business Administration (IBA), Karachi.
In the 1970s, Arif Habib started his career as a civil engineer, working on various infrastructure projects in Pakistan. Later, he established Arif Habib Corporation Limited, a conglomerate of diversified businesses including financial services, cement, fertilizer, and energy. Arif Habib Corporation Limited is one of the leading companies in Pakistan, with a significant presence in the country’s stock exchange.
Arif Habib is also known for his philanthropic work. He established the Arif Habib Foundation, which focuses on healthcare, education, and social welfare projects in Pakistan. The foundation has established various healthcare facilities, including hospitals, clinics, and ambulances, to provide medical assistance to underprivileged communities in Pakistan.
Arif Habib has also been actively involved in promoting the development of the capital market in Pakistan. He has served as the chairman of the Karachi Stock Exchange and the Pakistan Stock Exchange, and is a member of several committees of the Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan (SECP).
Arif Habib has been awarded numerous awards for his contributions to the business and social sectors in Pakistan. He was awarded the Sitara-e-Imtiaz, one of the highest civilian awards in Pakistan, in 2013, in recognition of his services to the country.
